With the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, reports are surfacing that more foreign investors are looking to the UK’s Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa route, which allows foreign national investors ‘gain a foothold’ in the Western European market.
What is a Tier 1 Entepreneur Visa?:
The Tier 1 Entrpreneur route is avaliable to foreign entrepreneurs with £50,000 or £200,000 to invest in a UK business. Funds can be used to establish a business in the UK or to invest in an exisiting business. Funds which are not in the UK must be held in an institution recognised by the Financial Services Authority.
In order to make a succesful application under the Tier 1 route applicants need to secure 95 points.
How are the points calculated:
25 Points – Having access to atleast £200,000 of investment funds or £50,000 frrom one of the following:
- One or more registered venture capital firms
- One or more UK entrepreneurial seed funding competitions
- One or more UK government departments
25 Points– Having investment funds that are held in a regulated financial institution
25 Points – Having investment funds that are dispoable in the UK
10 Points - Having access to maintenance funds of £3,310 per main applicant and any dependants
10 Points – Satisfying the English language requirement either by taking an English Language Test or having a degree taught in English or by being a national of a majority English speaking country.
